Slitting Blades for Colines Extrusion Lines
Colines Extrusion Lines for Plastic Film Production
Colines designs both cast and blown film extrusion systems. For blown film, their systems handle layflats from 1200 to 4200 mm with net outputs of up to 1200 kg/h. The thickness range spans from 15 to 250 microns, with inline slitting and a standard winding diameter of 1200 mm. Packaging film, shrink film, lamination film, and barrier stretch film are among the applications for these lines, which are particularly suitable for food-safe, recycle-ready, or biodegradable films.
In cast extrusion, Colines offers lines like POLYCAST®, BarrierCast®, and ALLrollEX®, capable of producing multi- and nanolayer films with machine-direction orientation (MDO). Their barrier film lines serve sectors like flexible medical packaging, dry food, pet food, and metallization substrates. For hygiene products, AIRCAST® and DIAPERCAST® lines are used globally in the production of breathable and non-breathable films for diapers, incontinence pads, and technical sportswear.
Across these platforms, Colines integrates proprietary systems like FLEXIWIND® II for high-speed winding and PERFORM-EX® extruders able to process LDPE, LLDPE, metallocenes, PA, EVA, and more. The MDO units are IR-heated, minimizing thermal loss and reducing energy consumption, which is especially valuable when working with biodegradable or thin-gauge films.
Slitting and Trimming in High-Speed Film Production
Whether you’re producing breathable diaper backsheet film, complex recyclable food packaging laminates, or agricultural stretch films with UV masterbatch, Colines has an extrusion line built to handle it. But to get consistent quality from high-performance extrusion, you need precise converting. That’s where Sollex industrial razor blades become a key part of the production setup.
When you’re running at full capacity, your slitting blades have to match the performance of your extrusion line. Poorly selected or worn-out blades create film dust, frayed edges, or tension instability at the winding stage. These are costly problems, especially when working with expensive materials or thin layers.
Read more about common cutting problems in our blog, “13 common problems when slitting and cutting blown film, and what you can do about them”. These issues slow down production and increase post-industrial plastic waste.
Inline slitting is standard on most Colines lines. But maintaining sharp, reliable cuts at high speed, especially when working with sensitive films, requires high-quality industrial razor blades.
Sollex Blades for Colines: Clean Cuts, Less Downtime, Better Yields
Sollex produces industrial razor blades designed for the realities of modern film converting. Whether you’re slitting barrier PE with EVOH, polypropylene nanolayer films, or breathable backsheet films made from soft terpolymers, Sollex has the converting and slitter rewinder blades that fit.
We engineer our slotted slitting blades, 3-hole razor blades and injector razor blades to function in high-speed environments without quickly dulling or causing edge defects.
On blown film lines, Sollex blades help maintain stable edges during high-throughput operation, improving roll formation and reducing scrap. They provide uniform slit width even with thin, multi-layered films on cast lines such as ALLrollEX® or POLYCAST®. For hygiene film producers, using Sollex blades minimizes dusting, which helps maintain machine cleanliness and product hygiene, especially critical in medical or sanitary applications.
Sollex offers a range of blade materials from coated stainless to ultra-durable tungsten carbide matched to specific polymers and film structures. Our customers running Colines lines report longer blade life, fewer web breaks, cleaner rolls, and better winding behavior.
Recommended Blades for Colines Extrusion Lines
Colines builds excellent extrusion machinery — no question. But without sharp, stable slitting and trimming, even the most advanced system can fall short. Good winding depends on clean edges. And clean edges depend on the right blade geometry, coating, and material.
By combining Colines’ extrusion paired with Sollex industrial razor blade technology, film manufacturers get more out of every kilogram of resin: better rolls, tighter tolerances, less dust, and higher customer satisfaction. We’ve worked with many customers running Windmöller & Hölscher, Reifenhäuser GmbH & Co. KG Maschinenfabrik, Macchi, Costruzioni Meccaniche Luigi Bandera S.p.A equipment, and certain Sollex blades keep coming up as top choices:
- 5Z / 5LZ slotted razor blade: a unique zero-friction-coated razor blade perfect for reducing dust and heat in the cut and handles PE, LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, BOPE,PET, PIR, PCR films well
- 5K slotted razor blade: a reliable, ceramic-coated razor blade for general-purpose film slitting
- 5T slotted razor blade: long-lasting blade with titanium TiN cutting edges for slitting PE and PET polymer films
- 2-020-Z or 2-030-Z 3-hole razor blade: slitting blades with zero-friction coating as thinner alternatives to 5Z blades
- 2-020-K or 2-030-K 3-hole razor blade: converting razor blades with ceramic coating as thinner alternatives to 5K blades that can slit a wide range of films
- 4-60-030-Z long 3-hole razor blade: coated slitting edges with ceramic for extreme durability, ideal for high-speed lines or abrasive films
Each of these models has proven to perform well in blown film and cast film systems, especially when the goal is high throughput and consistent edge quality.
